Project summary |
The objectives of the project are to reduce the vulnerability of communities in the Kyrgyz Republic to natural disasters and to strengthen the capacity of local authorities and communities to plan and prepare for disasters.
Results expected: - Emergency plans are adapted for 50 villages in Kyrgyzstan by IOM partners jointly with IOM and the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) and distributed among the population, in schools and in organizations.
- At least 15 NGO partners are identified in Kyrgyzstan to conduct training for the population; the NGOs are trained and provided with grants. Community facilitators conduct training for the local population.
- Training for local authorities is conducted by NGOs in Kyrgyzstan and by IOM partners in Turkmenistan jointly with IOM and the Ministry of Ecology and Emergency Situations (MEES). Disaster Response Plans are implemented on a regular basis, and the capacity of local communities is strengthened to a level of sustainability.
Workshops and meetings with government officials, local authorities, NGOs and other partners are conducted with the aim of coordinating efforts and monitoring project results.
